To attract more funding to fight climate change, a consortium of the world’s leading foundations sought a detailed and rigorous roadmap for philanthropic investment in greenhouse gas mitigation. They asked California Environmental Associates to:
- Determine the sectors and nations where the most carbon is emitted
- Prioritize methods for reducing emissions around the global
- Create a roadmap of philanthropic investments with the most carbon mitigation potential
In August 2007, CEA published the Design to Win report, a summary of the analysis and a strategy document for foundations. I served as a lead writer for this landmark report, which helped inspire the Hewlett, Packard, and McKnight foundations to commit more than $1 billion to create ClimateWorks, a global philanthropic network dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
